Is colour returning to the bathroom??

One of the most noticeable trends at KBB 2026 Show (Kitchen, Bathroom & Bedroom Show) at the NEC Birmingham this week was the confident return of colour.

After decades dominated by white sanitaryware and minimalist palettes, manufacturers are clearly embracing a more expressive approach to bathroom design. Coloured basins, WCs and baths were everywhere, paired with coordinated brassware, appliances and cabinetry.

For many of us, coloured bathroom suites inevitably bring back memories of the avocado, aubergine and whisper-pink bathrooms that filled homes in the 1970s and 80s. At the time they were considered stylish and modern, before the market pivoted towards the all-white aesthetic that has dominated for the past few decades.

What feels different this time is the subtlety. Rather than bold statement suites, the colours now lean towards softer greens, muted blues, warm clay tones and layered neutrals. The overall look feels far more refined and integrated within contemporary interior design.

It raises an interesting question: Are we seeing the beginning of a shift away from the all-white bathroom?

We’d be interested to hear what others in the industry think - is coloured sanitary ware truly making a comeback or is this simply a passing trend?
